Median MoCo home price hits new record of $650K
The median price of a home sold in Montgomery County hit a new record high of $650,000 this year, surpassing the previous record of $630,000. The median sale price has surged 51% percent since 2014, when it stood at $430,000. (UrbanTurf)
New market with free fresh produce launches in Southeast DC
The nonprofit Building Bridges Across the River has launched “Food and Farm Fridays” at THEARC, essentially operating as a free farmers market with produce from gardens the nonprofit manages across the District, as well as food from the Capital Area Food Bank and DC Central Kitchen. Fairfax County residents call for pedestrian improvements to Route 29
Pedestrian and cyclist safety improvements are top of mind for Fairfax County residents in a recent survey on ways to improve a three-mile stretch of Route 29 near Fairfax City. Effort to remediate toxic soil unearths WWI-era munitions in Spring Valley
An ongoing effort to clean up contaminated soil on the American University campus resulted in the discovery of buried World War I-era munitions on Rockwood Parkway NW near Fletcher Gate last week. The 19 munitions were safely removed and transported to Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Harford County, Maryland. The Spring Valley neighborhood was the site of weapons testing in the early 20th century. Major renovations kick off at Mount Vernon Woods Park
Construction is set to begin this week on renovations at Mount Vernon Woods Park in Fairfax County. A shelter, parking lot, playground, fitness area, soccer field, multi-sport court, and skate park will be added between now and 2026. Construction begins on new local artist hub at Sandy Spring Museum
Ground broke on Sunday for a new Cultural Heritage Hub at Sandy Spring Museum that will focus on supporting local folk artists from underserved and underrepresented communities in Montgomery County. MoCo police seek pickup truck driver following fatal hit-and-run
Law enforcement officials in Montgomery County are seeking the driver of a 1999-2006 black Chevrolet Silverado 1500 who fled the scene after striking a pedestrian who was trying to cross University Boulevard East in Takoma Park. The pedestrian, who has yet to be identified, was later pronounced dead at a hospital. (Dana Sukontarak / WTOP)
