Transit equity is a key part of tackling climate change, creating good jobs, and ensuring that everyone can get to work, school, health care, and more. Well funded public transit is essential for reaching that goal. Congressman Hank Johnson recently reintroduced a bill which would authorize $20 billion annually for four years ($80B total) to transit systems for their operating budgets. This could have big implications for local transit agencies like WMATA, but only if it passes. In this casual conversation, we’ll talk about what the Stronger Communities Through Better Transit Act could mean for DC, what we can do to help get it passed, and other ways to advance transit equity in DC.
