WMATA to present three budget shortfall scenarios
WMATA announced three options Tuesday to address its $750 million budget shortfall set to hit next summer, which include WMATA making cuts and/or redirecting capital funds toward operating expenses. All scenarios depend on additional funding commitments from DC, Maryland, and Virginia. The WMATA board will review proposals at Thursday’s board meeting. NPS taking comment on Mt. Vernon Trail and GW Parkway overhaul
The National Park Service (NPS) has unveiled plans to significantly upgrade the Mount Vernon Trail and a section of the George Washington Memorial Parkway. Proposals include widening parts of the trail, bridge repairs, improvements to pedestrian and vehicle crossings, expanded Capital Bikeshare stations, and reducing vehicular speeds along the portion of the parkway used by vehicles. Washington region food pantry prepared to create pop-up grocery distribution sites for those affected by government shutdown
As a government shutdown looms, the Capital Area Food Bank is preparing pop-up grocery distribution sites across the region to support up to 100,000 Federal employees and those on the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) and the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) programs who may see reduced or suspended benefits. Redesign of intersection adjacent to King Street Amtrak and Metro tracks to begin next month
The City of Alexandria will start construction to improve pedestrian connections at the intersection of King Street, Callahan Drive, and Russell Road, which sits adjacent to the Amtrak and Metrorail bridge crossings and stations at King Street next month. Apartments near Shady Grove Metro station change hands
The Huntington at Kings Farm, a complex of rental apartments and townhomes near the Shady Grove Metro station in Rockville, has sold to the owners of residential properties in National Harbor, adding to their residential portfolio.
