Breakfast links: MoCo, Baltimore City partner to request aid to prevent evictions
MoCo, Baltimore ask state to direct part of budget surplus to prevent evictions
Montgomery County has joined Baltimore City in asking the state to help provide rental assistance to residents. In Montgomery County, rent eats up at least 30% of monthly income for close to half of all residents, and the number of evictions has tripled compared to last year. There appears to be support for new housing assistance in the Maryland House of Delegates, but new fiscal projections have made lawmakers cautious about making any decision about spending the existing surplus. Metro electric buses delayed, DASH buses recalled due to bus fire risk

The Maryland Air Quality Control Advisory Council made the recommendation to the Maryland Department of the Environment, which is expected to lay out a timeline for reaching the standards in the fall. The standards will help Maryland meet its goal of having all new vehicles be electric by 2035. The Hogan Administration had reversed progress on fulfilling these standards in 2022. New mixed use development could be coming to 701 Michigan Ave NE
The owner of a land parcel right next to Brookland’s Monroe Street Market has requested a zoning change to the MU-2 designation. This would allow for medium-density development up to 90 feet high. The application does not describe the final intended use of the parcel, which is currently home to an empty single-story building and a parking lot. (Urban Turf)
