Smoke was reported in the Clarendon Metro station around 8:17 am. While the smoke dissipated around 8:30 am, Orange and Silver line trains were expected to run on delay throughout the morning and officials are investigating the cause. (ARLNow)
Elrich supports one MoCo rent bill, will veto other as written
Montgomery County Councilmembers proposed two different rent stabilization measures last week and County Executive Marc Elrich has stated he will veto the one sponsored by the majority of the councilmembers as written, in favor of one he helped coordinate with two other councilmembers. DC Council Chairman Mendelson tries to pull criminal code bill, US Senate to still vote on it
DC Council Chairman Phil Mendelson attempted to pull the proposed DC criminal code reform bill from congressional consideration, but the action was rejected by US Senators. Mendelson hoped to restart the debate on the bill, however, the Senate insists on holding the vote as scheduled, despite it being favored to not pass and if it did, being vetoed by the President. Neighborhood leaders throughout DC’s Ward 8 come together for study
Business and community leaders who live, work, and do business in Ward 8 developed a community survey and plan to identify ways that current community members, namely those who are Black and low-income, can benefit from economic growth and receive more services. WTOP investigation gets lights turned back on along 3-mile MoCo stretch of Beltway
A WTOP investigation found 40 streetlights along the Beltway from the three-mile stretch between Connecticut Avenue and Silver Spring exits were not working consistently. An inquiry to the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) resulted in the agency working to replace bulbs and noting that it does monthly audits of the Beltway lighting in the parts under its jurisdiction. Alexandria’s Montgomery Center redevelopment advances
Alexandria’s Montgomery Center, an existing but nearly vacant mixed-use development, will go before the Alexandria Planning Commission for redevelopment approval later this month. The redevelopment seeks to add 24 affordable housing units, 327 total residential units, and 25,273 square feet of residential.
