The DC Council will hold hearings on the Comprehensive Plan Amendment Act of 2020 at 10 am Thursday and 9 am Friday. DC has been updating the District’s foundational land use text since 2016. How African culture intersects with DC cuisine: DC has always been international, and it’s robust food offerings are no different. Join Slow Food DC and HumanitiesDC will be as they host a panel discussion about the “historic and modern African influences on DC food culture.” The conversation begins at 5:30 pm Tuesday. Learn about DC’s history: Since 1973 the DC History conference has helped broaden the conversation around the District’s shared history. This year the conference will be picking on the theme “echoes” during this annual event presented by the DC History Center and American University. Several speakers are scheduled throughout the event. The conference begins at 6 pm Thursday ends at 3 pm Saturday. Registration is required for this event. Tickets range from $20 to $50.

Saturday, November 14

Take a virtual walk to end homelessness: You can take a step, or several, to end homelessness by joining the virtual Friendship Walks. The event begins Saturday and will run until November 21. All proceeds will go to Friendship Place, a “nonprofit organization that offers the most effective model for addressing homelessness.” This year the organization is trying to raise $125,000.
