Have you ever wondered how many of your neighbors live car-free, or which ones might be convinced to come out in support of a new apartment building? Maybe you’d like the have a bikeshare station near your house but aren’t sure how to demonstrate popular support for the project? Or maybe you want to engage people all over the region with urbanist happenings?

If you’re looking for ways to connect with your neighbors and build power for urbanist issues in your community, we would love to have you join our Community Engagement Committee! If you’re looking to reach a broader audience and love sparking conversation on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram, consider becoming a Social Media Maven.

Here’s a little more about each of these roles:

The Community Engagement Committee is at a crossroads this year. We will be continuing our mission of providing GGWash readers and neighbors with fun and educational opportunities to engage with each other offline, but we’d like to more intentionally focus on helping our readers make meaningful connections within our own communities.

Here at GGWash, we believe that the leadership of community members is a critical piece of any successful movement, and as we look to build a broad base of regional support for an inclusive and sustainable Washington region, we will need residents from every city, county, ward, and neighborhood. If you would be interested in helping to plan a social gathering for residents of your neighborhood to meet each other and share your visions for what your community can be, please apply to the community engagement committee today!

If you prefer to engage with folks online, we are also looking for volunteers to help us deepen our ability to engage with supporters through social media, and to reach new audiences.

Our Social Media Mavens help us to engage people with our news articles and other content by crafting engaging tweets and posts, sharing and live-tweeting our events, helping build our social media audiences, and more. This is great for people who are into social media and want to help us put a GGWash-y voice on our Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram presence!

If either of these roles sounds interesting, we hope you will apply! For a complete list of current volunteer opportunities, click here. If you have any questions please feel free to reach to me directly at kjentoftherr@ggwash.org
