Montgomery County takes on enforcement of new rent stabilization law
County officials sent draft regulations to the Montgomery County Council on June 14, detailing enforcement mechanisms for a rent stabilization law that passed last year. The Department of Housing and Community Affairs has worked to develop this proposal over the last year, fielding 350 pages of recommendations as part of the process. Fairfax County redistributes its funds meant to establish a “green bank”
The funds will be redirected toward Electrify Fairfax, a pilot program that will hire contractors to advise residents who are considering installing solar panels or switching appliances from gas to electric. The county first explored establishing a green bank three years ago, but the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors decided that outreach and education would do more to help the county achieve its climate goals than financing green energy projects. MoCo launched automated rooftop solar system permitting system
The Montgomery County Department of Permitting Services launched the new system, “eSolar,” which combines the building and electrical permit processes for solar panels into a single app for licensed contractors and approved residential buildings to use.
