Bask in the moonlight on Mount Vernon Trail: Join the Friends of Mount Vernon Trail, Friends of Arlington’s Planetarium, and WalkArlington for a two mile moonlit nature walk of the Mount Vernon Trail. November’s Beaver Moon is expected to reach its peak on the morning of Monday, November 27. This means that Sunday night is the best time to catch the moonlit sky while still getting a good night’s sleep, as the moon is brightest the night before. This event will start at Theodore Roosevelt Island Parking and continue south on the Mount Vernon Trail. There will be stops to learn more about the Beaver Moon and stargaze through telescopes. Learn more & RSVP here.

Friday, November 24:

Remove invasive plants in Rock Creek Park: This Friday, join the Join Rock Creek Conservancy and the National Park Service at Carter Barron Half-Moon for an invasive plant removal restoration. Invasive plants continue to threaten our forests and with your help, Rock Creek Park can maintain a native understory. After signing up, an event leader will reach out to you with more details. Learn more & RSVP here.

Monday, November 27:

Help refurbish donated bicycles: Join Vélocity Bicycle Cooperative at The Warehouse to refurbish donated bicycles next Monday. This is a great way to improve your bicycle mechanic skills, as no prior knowledge or experience is needed. Take the opportunity to get hands-on experience as well as help clean up and organize the space at this volunteer run community event. There are a limited number of spots available, so sign up before they’re all gone. These are weekly events. Learn more & RSVP here.

Write to DDOT and elected officials about prioritizing safety: Next Monday, WABA and Ward 3 bikes will be hosting a postcard writing event where members of the community can join together to write letters to the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) and elected officials. These letters are oriented towards communicating the demand for prioritizing road safety and pushing for a protected bike lane on Connecticut Avenue NW. All are welcome, as children and adults alike are invited to share their demand for road safety prioritization. There will be snacks and “I Bike I Buy” cards to give to small businesses you plan on commuting by bike to this holiday season. Learn more & RSVP here.
