Truist donates Adams Morgan site to affordable housing nonprofit
Truist has walked away from plans to sell the property at 18th Street and Columbia Road NW to a housing developer, instead donating the site to Jubilee Housing, an affordable housing nonprofit. Demolition to begin in West Baltimore for new Amtrak tunnel ventilation facilites
Amtrak has announced plans to demolish of properties along West North Avenue and North Payson Street in West Baltimore by mid-November, paving the way for the construction of the new $6 billion Frederick Douglass Tunnel. This new tunnel aims to replace the aging 150-year-old B&P Tunnel, enhancing train speeds and reducing bottleneck issues. As part of its community mitigation efforts, Amtrak has committed $50 million for investments and grants within a quarter-mile radius of the tunnel route. (This article is behind a paywall). Madeline Albright’s Georgetown home sale indicative of DC housing market changes
The late Secretary of State’s 4000-square-foot Georgetown residence, which she purchased in 1968 for $100,000, is now on the market for $4 million. She lived there until her death in 2022 and hosted a number of world leaders and dignitaries at her home over the years. (Urban Turf)
100% affordable housing development across from Ballston Metro station set to open in January
Arlington Partnership for Affordable Housing announced on Monday that they expect to open their new all-affordable 144-unit housing development on the former site of Central United Methodist Church in January. The church will also return to the site, adjacent to the Ballston Metro station, with a commercial kitchen to aid in its food distribution services and a daycare serving families that work non-traditional hours will also return. Dulles Greenway toll operators asking for 21% increase in tolls
The operator of the Dulles Greenway, TRIP II, has requested a 21% toll increase. Their last request for an increase in 2021 was denied, and the Virginia Attorney General has indicated opposition to this request. Meanwhile, TRIP II is interested in reaching a new agreement with the state to make fundamental changes to how the road is managed, including distance-based tolling. (FFXNow)
Silver Spring assisted living residents struggle as facility closure announced on short notice
The nursing home recently provided residents 45 days’ notice that they intend to close and reopen as a skilled nursing facility. However, families and elected officials say the notice is insufficient, note that relocation resources are inadequate, and question why the assisted living facility let new residents move in with closure imminent.
