They will discuss their efforts to preserve and promote African American history in Montgomery County through film, agriculture, community, and the arts. They will talk about what motivated them to begin doing what they do and how Juneteenth being nationally recognized has affected their work. Saturday, June 24:

Learn how gardens and gardening help foster a sense of community: Gardens have been around for centuries, and their significance has not waivered. They not only play an important role in our lives today, but were essential to the lives of our ancestors too. Derek Thomas will facilitate conversation on how gardens have shaped your life and the most important lesson that has come from it. Then, everyone will perform maintenance on the summer garden, harvest the last of the spring vegetables, and plant new seeds for a leafy vegetable harvest that will occur later this summer. The event is also accessible by Zoom if you cannot attend in person. Learn more and RSVP here.

Sunday, June 25:

Conversation will cover any updates attendees have on important neighborhood issues to watch out for and what ways you can get engaged throughout the next month. Although these conversations will focus mainly on Wards 1 and 2, anyone interested in civic engagement should feel free to attend. This event is organized and planned by GGWash volunteers.
