The Washington Region Vision Zero Summit brings together elected officials, decision-makers, advocates, thought leaders, and the private sector to share best practices, insights and innovations to eliminate deaths and serious injuries on our region’s streets and highways.

This year’s summit will take place on Wednesday, June 14, and will focus on the theme of Community Engagement and Safe Streets. The summit will dive into how we as practitioners, decision-makers, and advocates can authentically seek and incorporate community feedback and build lasting community buy-in for safer streets. Hosted by the Washington Area Bicyclists Association (WABA), the summit will take place on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm virtually with optional in-person programming that evening from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm at MLK Library (901 G St NW, Washington, DC 20001). Alex Baca, GGWash’s DC Policy Director, will be moderating a panel at this event (12:00 pm). This year’s summit is Pay-What-You-Can for all registrants. Sunday, June 18:

Celebrate Juneteenth at a family-friendly community festival featuring cultural performances and a black-owned marketplace: Juneteenth is a holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African-Americans - which wasn’t until two years after Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation. Originating in Galveston, Texas, it has been celebrated annually on June 19 in various parts of the United States since 1865. Enslaved African-Americans in Galveston, Texas, were the last to know that they were free. It was said that the message of freedom was delivered by Union General Gordon Granger on June 19, which is where the celebration gets its namesake of Juneteenth (a combination of June and nineteenth).

Come celebrate Black culture and Black freedom at the community festival at the Brookland Arts Arts Walk on Sunday, June 18, 2023 (Father’s Day) from 11 am - 5 pm. The festival will highlight Black-owned businesses, cultural performances, and more. Learn more about the event and how to attend here.
