Learn how the locations of premium grocery stores perpetuate patterns of under-investment in Black neighborhoods: The Washington metro area has a lot of high-end grocery stores. They tend to locate in high-income neighborhoods – but not just any high-income neighborhoods. Although this region has the highest concentration of high-income majority-Black neighborhoods in the US, new Brookings research finds that premium grocers are still more likely to locate in neighborhoods with few Black residents. It’s part of a broader national trend of under-investment in Black neighborhoods.

Join Andre M. Perry from the Brookings Institution, Angie Rodgers from Prince George’s County, and moderator Dan Reed from GGWash for a virtual discussion about the report’s findings, what it tells us about the persistence of structural racism in urban development and patterns of investment, and the implications for Black-majority communities in the Washington region. Learn how the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) can help us achieve zero deaths on our roadways: The United States faces a public health crisis on its roads. Secretary Pete Buttigieg calls the situation a preventable crisis—one for which we must take responsibility by recognizing that human lives are not a price to pay for modernity. New funding available through the 2021 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) provides a significant opportunity to reduce crashes through infrastructure redesign.

Join the Mineta Transportation Institute for their 14th Annual Mineta National Transportation Policy Summit to discuss with a panel of national experts the role of infrastructure redesign in achieving a national goal of zero traffic fatalities.
