DC Councilmember Allen wants to switch out 30,000 gas stoves by 2040
The proposed legislation, funded by the Inflation Reduction Act, would provide subsidies for households on a sliding scale to help them replace gas stoves with electric ones. It would also train contractors on how to make the retrofits. Gas stoves, while popular, create significantly more indoor air pollution than electric stoves, which can cause or exacerbate existing health problems such as asthma. (Jacob Fenston / DCist)
Alexandria Old Town North Arts District begins to take shape
Several buildings have already been constructed, and others are at various stages in the permitting process. City staff shared updated plans at a meeting with city residents last week to gather input on what types of art-related uses are of greatest interest. Baltimore City Council looks to restart, revamp Inclusionary Housing Program

Butane tanker crash closes Route 50 near Annapolis Monday
Route 50 was closed for over six hours Monday after a tanker truck carrying 35,000 tons of butane overturned early Monday morning on the Severn River bridge. The driver was taken to Shock Trauma hospital in Baltimore, and also ticketed; in addition, several schools in the area were switched to online classes for the day.
