Stand up for the Purple Line in November

MTA Maryland will be holding four hearings on the Purple Line in November. These are a key way that MTA and Governor O’Malley will hear public support or opposition. Wealthy NIMBYs (literally) in the Columbia Country Club and the Town of Chevy Chase are organizing to get opponents there; MTA and O’Malley need to hear from the many citizens of Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties who know that a transit line from New Carrollton to Bethesda will help people, lessen traffic, and protect the environment.

The most important hearing is Chevy Chase’s, which is where the opponents will show up in greatest numbers. That’s Tuesday, November 18th, 5-9 pm at the National 4-H Youth Conference Center, 7100 Connecticut Ave.

Other hearings:

New Carrollton: Saturday, November 15th, 11 am-3 pm at the New Carrollton Municipal Center, 6016 Princess Garden Parkway.

College Park: Wednesday, November 19th, 5-9 pm at UMDs’ Ritchie Coliseum, Route 1 at the corner of Rossborough Lane.

Silver Spring: Saturday, November 22, 1-5 pm at Montgomery College, Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus’s Falcon Hall, 7600 Takoma Avenue, Takoma Park.

And if you haven’t signed the petition from Purple Line Now, please do so! We can’t let a few golfers sink suburban Maryland’s most important transit project in decades.
