Then and Now: Sherman Avenue

Then (left): Row houses on Sherman Avenue between Columbia Road and Irving Streets, NW. Photographed May 15, 1949. Photo from the Historical Society of Washington, Wymer collection, WY 1023.

Now (right): The same row, a little worse for wear, but still there. The corridor is more heavily traveled today and shows signs of neglect. It also appears that all of the mature trees are absent. The Sherman Ave. corridor is slated to receive stimulus money this year for streetscaping. It will be interesting to see how this corridor appears a year from now.
