Afternoon more-than-links: Earth moves at DC Council
Hill East stays in 6, mostly
A redistricting deal keeps Hill East in Ward 6, or at least the part of it with actual residents. The area containing the jail and Reservation 13 future development will go to 7.
This happens to fit a Census tract boundary, unlike the previous map. On the Ward 2/6 line, the “chimney” part of Ward 6 will stay in 6, and a few blocks but not the Convention Center were moved back and forth, also still mostly not matching tract boundaries. Also, Ward 7 takes a bit of the south side of Pennsylvania Avenue SE from Ward 8. (City Paper)
AG to sue over Team Thomas
DC Attorney General Irv Nathan will file a lawsuit against Councilmember Harry Thomas, Jr. for allegedly spending charitable funds for his personal use. Nathan is seeking $1 million in compensation and referred charges to federal prosecutors. (DCist)
Sulaimon testifies, Suderman tweets
Sulaimon Brown has been testifying today at the DC Council. It’s apparently been quite a circus, with councilmembers fighting amongst themselves and crazy antics from Brown, but not much actual news yet. (City Paper)
Alan Suderman has gained a lot of Twitter followers. You can follow him or Mike DeBonis if you care about the blow-by-blow, and/or follow us if you care about other things.
