It models community engagement and inclusive development, along with participatory economics, healing, and transformation. Tuesday, July 25:

Deep-dive into office-to-residential space conversions: The Housing of Urban Development’s Office of Policy Development and Research will host a Quarterly Update focused on office-to-residential conversions and featuring keynote remarks from Dr. Tracy Hadden Loh of Brookings Metro. There will be two panel discussions. The first panel will focus on the specifics of converting office space into residential units, while the second panel will examine how policymakers can successfully convert and promote office spaces in downtown markets. Tour the recently renovated National Air and Space Museum: Construction of the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum began in late 2018, with Phase 1 opening to the public in October 2022. This tour will go into detail about design challenges the project team faced, identifying, identifying the specific challenges that museum spaces present in regards to sustainability, and how design strategies were used to maximize air quality, daylight, modern sustainability, and health performance standards. The tour includes seeing the Phase 2 construction site, so be sure to bring your own personal protection equipment: hard hats, eye protection, hard-soled shoes, and gloves (they can provide extra sets of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) if requested in advance). Wednesday, July 26:

Provide feedback on the relaunch of the Red Line in Baltimore (multiple dates!): Do you want to learn more about the Red Line that is reopening in Baltimore? The Metro Transit Authority is hosting five open houses throughout late July and early August to inform the public on project details (each open house will present the same information) and to allow you to provide any feedback you might have on their early ideas and concepts. The first open house will be held on Wednesday July 26 and the last will be held on Tuesday, August 1, with each one being held at a different location. No RSVP is needed. Meet-up with WABA and fellow bicycling advocates in Rockville: Are you passionate about biking? Do you want to ensure safer and more accessible biking in Montgomery County? Join WABA for a happy hour at World of Beer in Rockville, Maryland on Wednesday, July 26 to discuss all things bike and connect with fellow bicycling advocates from the Greater Washington area. Thursday, July 27:

Learn about the Arboretum Bridge and Trail project: Join DDOT for a virtual presentation on the Arboretum Bridge and Trail project. This project was established to provide a safe pathway from the Anacostia waterfront to the U.S. National Arboretum. The crossing is meant to improve access for all users (pedestrians, bicyclists, kayakers and canoers, anglers, and wildlife observers!), meaning the crossing will be ADA compliant. Upon completion, the project will connect the Arboretum, Kenilworth Park North, and several adjacent neighborhoods such as Kenilworth-Parkside, Mayfair, and River Terrace. Saturday, July 29:

Keep our waterways litter-free at a kayak clean-up: Get outside and kayak along the streambank of Four Mile Run in Alexandria, Virginia to collect litter with the Four Mile Run Conservatory Foundation on Saturday, July 29. They provide the kayaks, paddles, life vests, trash grabbers, trash bags, and gloves (as well as snacks!), but if you prefer you may bring your own kayak, paddle and/or life vest. It is recommended you bring a reusable water bottle, bug spray, sunscreen, water shoes, and hand sanitizer/face mask as well. Additional details will be provided after registering.
