This is the final week for our 2019 member drive, and we still need $4,728 or 50 new members to reach our goal. Join our GGWash Neighborhood or make a donation of any amount and you’ll get a ticket to our 11th birthday party on March 14, 2019 from 6:30-9 pm in Crystal City.
Our party is a great opportunity to meet GGWash staff, contributors, volunteers, and friends from across the region to celebrate achievements that have advanced equitable urbanism in the past year and look forward to regional goals in the future. Come and network with your fellow urbanists while enjoying views of National Landing and get an insider’s look at development plans for the neighborhood. The 11th birthday party celebrates the end of our 2019 member drive. We rely on our readers to fund the daily costs of operating this site. GGWash is proud to provide you the wonky, data-driven news about urban policy that you can't get anywhere else. If you've read the site this year, please contribute what you can to keep us going.

View the road ahead for automobiles: Swing by the American Public Transportation Association (1300 I Street NW) at 5 pm to hear “Anne Marie Lewis, Ph.D., Senior Director of Technology and Innovation Policy for the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers… speak about innovation in the automobile industry and the vision going forward.” Enjoy a “wine-and-cheese reception beginning at 5 pm, followed by a presentation and discussion from 5:30 – 6:30 pm.” RSVP via email here.
Build bridges between road users: Whether you are a biker, driver, pedestrian, or most likely some combination thereof, check out the Humanity Hub from 6 to 8 pm at the Front Page (1333 New Hampshire Ave NW) for their “first lively bridge-building discussion. This event will center on creating safer city streets by understanding each other’s perspectives, and generating solutions we may not have otherwise considered… through the World Café method.” Sign up for one of the few spots remaining, and note that “food and beverage are available and will be pay-as-you-go.”

Add your voice to Vision Zero: The Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA) invites you to join them at the Anacostia Playhouse (2020 Shannon Pl SE) from 6 to 9 pm to discuss “what makes it hard to get where you’re going in your neighborhood? Missing crosswalks? Speeding… drivers? Buses stuck in traffic?” WABA will assemble “representatives from the District Department of Transportation, DC Council staff, and a variety of community organizations… to listen, answer questions, and engage with your thoughts on how to make streets safer for everyone from toddlers to grandparents.” They want your input so that their efforts at this week's Vision Zero Summit “stay focused on the needs of the community.” Find more information here.
Thursday, March 14
Attend the Vision Zero Summit: The Washington Area Bicyclist Association, in collaboration with the George Washington University Hospital and the Highway Safety Office, are bringing together “thought leaders, elected officials, decision-makers, and the private sector to discuss best practices and regional commitments towards zero traffic fatalities… to present best practices to protect vulnerable users.” This Vision Zero Summit runs from 9 am to 7 pm at the George Washington University Milken Institute for Public Health (950 New Hampshire Ave NW).
