The NOW Gallery, an exhibition space focusing on contemporary art, fashion, photography and design on Greenwich Peninsula in South East London, is hosting a discussion on design and architecture in the age of COVID-19.

Designer Tom Lloyd and architect Louise Grassovwill be in conversation with NOW curator Jemima Burrill to present how urban design and architecture affect the way people inhabit cities. The speakers will also share their feelings on how the COVID-19 lockdowns have influenced and impacted their work.

Why the public needs a voice in transit: The Eno Center for Transportation is hosting a webinar about why transportation organizations should allow the public to be more active in approving public transit. Speakers include Alice Grossman, a senior policy analyst at Eno, and Saba Long, the founder of Obelisk Strategies, who will talk about a volunteer-led effort that’s helping to make transit in Atlanta more accessible.

Get a residential permit in 21 business days: DC has improved its building permit process for accessory dwelling units such as basement apartments and backyard lofts (the process used to take months to complete). Mike Brown, the residential center manager at the DC Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs will lead a webinar to talk owners through the new online process.

Preserve your urban garden: UDC’s Center for Urban Agriculture and Gardening Education is hosting a monthly course about how climate change affects the urban and peri-urban farmer and the growth of new crops. Course leader Mason Trappio will also provide strategies for how to successfully adapt your garden to the ever-changing conditions.

Learn how you can become an ANC commissioner: Have you ever had the urge to get involved in local politics? DC has neighborhood-level elected officials called Advisory Neighborhood Commissioners. ANCs play a crucial role in neighborhood affairs as well as citywide planning. If you’re interested in running for ANC this year, join GGWash Thursday, July 16, at 6 pm to learn about the process and about how being a commissioner works.
