DC added its first red-pavement bus lane this past June. Now, Arlington and Mongtomery County are getting into the game with short red bus lanes in Rosslyn and Silver Spring.

Arlington

Arlington’s bus lane, pictured above, was added in early September. It’s one block long, along North Moore Street directly in front of Rosslyn Metro station.

Sawtooth bus stops cover the entire block, and the red will remind car drivers not to park there.

Montgomery’s bus lane is likewise only one block long. It runs along Wayne Avenue, from Ramsey to Colseville, and will help buses leave the Silver Spring Transit Center.

Crews added the red pavement overnight on September 23, though the bus lane itself will not open for use until later this year. Planners intend this lane to only be temporary, to help buses while Purple Line construction disrupts the station.
