GGWash is an organization powered by volunteers. With only a handful of staff, SO MUCH of what gets produced here is created by, reviewed by, approved by, and inspired by our volunteers from around the region.

Are you looking to get more involved in the inner workings of GGWash? Here are a few opportunities; take look and apply if you are interested!

Do you like planning events (maybe along with being into planning cities)? Join our new committee!

Over the years, GGWash has formed volunteer committees to support and guide our core work: the Advocacy Committee, the Elections Committee, and the Editorial Board.

This year we hosted a volunteer town hall to check in with our community, and one of the things we heard was that folks wanted more opportunities to simply engage with fellow urbanists in a variety of ways. Beyond that, Development Director Jane Green has been managing our events program for the public and for the Neighborhood and it has room to grow… so we’re starting a new committee!

The Community Engagement Committee will convene regularly via conference call to brainstorm, manage and execute GGWash’s full calendar of events and activities. Among other things, volunteers will:

  • Brainstorm potential topics and funders for GGWash’s events programming
  • Organize regular social events (online and offline) for GGWash readers and the Neighborhood (happy hours, neighborhood tours, Twitter town halls, photo walks, book clubs, movie nights, etc)
  • Volunteer for and execute the above events, including follow-up posts
  • Maintain GGWash’s external calendar of events and coordinate with outside organizations who want to promote their events to our community

Here are a few other ways you can get involved:

Social media mavens, come on over. Volunteers have managed and guided our social media presence for years, and we’d like to add to that crack team. Help us take our social game to new heights. Email Caitlin Rogger, our new Policy Manager, at crogger@ggwash.org with a few sentences about your experience and interest in social media.

Make Greater Greater Washington prettier. There are constant opportunities with our blog posts, our advocacy campaigns, and our elections work to incorporate more graphic design. We have a few volunteers who already support us on a rolling basis with their great work, but we could definitely use more! Interested? Email Caitlin and we’ll keep you in the loop when the next need arises - crogger@ggwash.org

Do you love breakfast links? Help us write them! We have a dedicated group of volunteers who peruse the news and identify relevant and interesting urbanist stories to help produce our Breakfast Links posts every day. We’re looking for another volunteer to share the load with this awesome team. Breakfast is not included, but our eternal thanks is! Email jstrupp@ggwash.org if you’re interested.

Write for us. We accept pitches for articles on an ongoing basis. If you're interested in writing for GGWash, check out our guidelines here.
