Metro allows bikes on trains
Starting January 7th, you will be able to bring your bike on Metro trains any time of the day provided space is available. Metro stated that this policy is aimed at reverse commuters who bike the “last mile” to home or work. (Faiz Siddiqui / Post)
DC bans plastic straws again
As on January 1st, DC businesses will have until July to find an alternative to plastic straws. Recently, volunteers collected 4,000 plastic straws during a cleanup effort of the Anacostia. A straw ban was passed along with a ban on styrofoam food containers in 2014, but it was not enforced. (Jacob Fenston / DCist)
Maryland officials vote to stop Potomac Pipeline
Maryland officials voted against Columbia Gas using state land to construct a natural gas pipeline despite approval from state and federal regulatory agencies. Environmentalists say the pipeline could harm the drinking water for many people in the DC region. (Rachel Chason / Post)
Metro’s 10 minutes “Rush Hour Promise”
Instead of 15 minutes, Metro riders will receive a refund if delayed 10 minutes or more. Last year Metro credited almost $1 million to customers delayed more than 15 minutes. (Jennifer Ortiz / WTOP)
Planning official visit all 421 MoCo parks
In 2018, Montgomery County Planning Board Chairman Casey Anderson visited all 421 parks and documented any issues and areas for potential improvements he found along the way.
