Tax breaks for companies east of the river
Companies that relocate to Wards 7 and 8 will receive big tax breaks if a new bill passes the DC Council. The bill would tax commercial and industrial properties east of the river at the same rate as residential properties for 10 years, significantly lowering their costs. (WBJ)
Metro’s smoke defense is hazy, even according to Jack Evans
WMATA Board Chairman Jack Evans says he's puzzled by WMATA’s legal argument that it had no responsibility to help riders in the January 2015 smoke incident that left one rider dead. He believes that Metro, along with the fire department, has some responsibility for the safety of passengers. (WTOP)
New housing for NoMA veterans
A new, architecturally distinct residence in NoMA will provide support for homeless veterans and low-income residents. The building features 124 efficiencies and will be the first in the country to have Veteran’s Affairs case managers on site. (City Paper)
McMillian will make its case
The plan to redevelop the McMillan Reservoir was stalled in December when an appeals court sent the project back to approval. Now the developers and city officials will make their case for the need and scope of the development at a public hearing on March 10. (UrbanTurf)
Jeff Bezos comes to Kalorama
Residents in Kalorama will have yet another new neighbor this year. Jeff Bezos, Amazon founder and owner of the Washington Post, has purchased the former Textile museum in Kalorama and will turn it into a single family home. (Post)
