Transit in Fairfax: A new study has developed recommendations for a future transit in Fairfax that could include BRT, light rail, and possibly extensions to the Blue, Orange, and/or Yellow lines. Learn about it at one of three open houses.

The first is Tuesday, February 16, at 6:30 pm at the Fairfax County Government Center in Rooms 9 and 10 (12000 Government Center Parkway). Later meetings are Tuesday, February 23, 6:30-8:30 at George Marshall High School and at the same time on Thursday, February 25 at Mount Eagle Elementary School.

Route 1 BRT: Fairfax wants to create more multimodal options on Route 1 from Huntington to Fort Belvoir, like BRT and Metrorail extensions, and is holding its fourth Advisory Group Meeting this Thursday, February 18, at 7 pm at 6116 North Kings Highway in Alexandria. Head to the meeting to learn more and share your thoughts on the plan.

Bike planning for the suburbs: The Montgomery County Planning Department is holding a speaker series focusing on new ideas in transit. At the second session, Jennifer Toole, the president of Toole Design Group, will talk about new approaches to suburban bicycle planning. Catch the talk Tuesday, February 23rd, at 6 pm at 8787 Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring. The third session will be on Wednesday, March 16. Note: This event was originally scheduled for Tuesday, February 16th, but was rescheduled

Purple Line update: Get the most up-to-date information about the Purple Line and its effects on University of Maryland students, the campus, and the surrounding community of College Park at a panel discussion hosted by Purple Line Now next Monday, February 22. It’s at 2 pm at the Adele H. Stamp Student Union (1021A Union Lane, College Park, MD).

Lessons on gentrification: Gentrification is a contentious issue among urban planners and urban dwellers. Check out “Tearing Down Oakhurst,” a documentary about gentrification pressures in an Atlanta Suburb from 2011 to 2014, this Thursday February 18, at 7 pm at Potter’s House in Adams Morgan (1658 Columbia Road NW) to learn more and discuss the topic.
