Grab a spot on a walking tour of Rhode Island Ave, talk about making Alexandria safer for walking, learn about the crime in the District, and voice your opinion on changes to several WMATA bus lines. And don’t miss a chance to take up a space in DC’s Park(ing) Day!

Get your walk on: With its new pedestrian bridge and development, the area around Rhode Island Avenue Metro station is transforming from isolated to integrated. RSVP to grab a slot at the Coalition for Smarter Growth’s walking tour of the area this Saturday 9/19 at 10 am.

After the jump: crime, mixed-income housing, WMATA changes, zoning rewrite and more.

Walk safely: Following a pedestrian death in Alexandria earlier this month, the City will hold a community meeting to discuss pedestrian safety in Rosemont and Del Ray. Share you thoughts with City staff and the Police Department next Monday, September 14 at 6:30 pm at Maury Elementary School Auditorium (600 Russell Rd, Alexandria). If you are unable to attend, you can fill out this survey.

Not so safe: The uptick in crime in the District is on many people’s minds. Kenyan McDuffie, Ward 5 Councilmember and Chairperson of the Committee on the Judiciary, will hold a public meeting to discuss strategies to combat crime at 5 pm on Wednesday, September 16, in Room 500 of the John A, Wilson Building (1350 Pennsylvania Ave NW).

Lesson on housing: Mixed income housing is a popular choice for housing affordability. Learn more about the benefits and challenges of producing mixed income housing at a public forum hosted by Arlington County and the Alliance for Housing Solutions on Wednesday, September 16, at 7 pm at the Arlington Cinema and Drafthouse (2903 Columbia Pike, Arlington).

Changing buses: Route changes are coming to several WMATA bus lines in DC, MD, and VA. Learn about the changes and share your opinion at a public meeting on Thursday, September 17, at 6pm, at Metro Headquarters (600 5th St NW). If you don’t have time to attend the meeting, you can weigh in on WMATA’s survey.

Know your neighborhood: Prince George’s County is rewriting its zoning regulations and wants you to help guide the process. Learn about how the new zoning will affect your neighborhood, share your ideas, and get to know fellow community members at the second of two meetings on Thursday, September 17 at 7 pm at 8001 Sherrif Rd in Landover.

Even more!: Head to a Purple Line info session on Thursday, September 18; don’t miss Park(ing) Day on Friday, September 18, and on Saturday, September 19, celebrate Capital Bikeshare’s Birthday with a Bike-in movie.
