The summer doldrums are nearly over! Start September off by participating in Arlington’s Affordable Housing Month, learning about changes to North Bethesda and new transit projects in Prince George’s County, or volunteering to help build support for bus rapid transit in Montgomery County.

Affordable housing month: September is Affordable Housing Month in Arlington County. Chris Estes of the National Housing Conference will speak at the kickoff event on Wednesday, September 2, at 4 pm at the Arlington County Board Room (Rm 307 2100 Clarendon Blvd). A bus tour (September 12), a public forum on mixed income housing (September 16), a session on residential services (September 21), a bike tour (September 26), and an affordable housing teach-in (September 30) are also happening this month.

After the jump: Rock Spring, transit mapping, Maryland transit updates, and a call for BRT volunteers

Rock Spring: Big changes could come to North Bethesda with the kickoff of the Rock Spring Master Plan. Learn about the current condition of the area and the plan’s major goals at a public meeting next Tuesday, September 1, at 7 pm at Walter Johnson High School (6400 Rock Spring Drive, Bethesda).

Map the way: Do you love mapping and transit? Join a show and tell of some of the most innovative transit mapping projects on Thursday, September 3, at 6 pm at 1133 15th St NW. RSVP is requested.

Transit changes in MD: Prince George’s County has a lot more transit projects in the works than just the Purple Line. Join Prince George’s County’s Action for Transit and guest speakers from the county’s Public Works and Transportation departments and WABA for a look at projects that include a better bus system, new transit plans for the National Harbor, and more bike lanes. The meeting is next Tuesday, September 8, at 6pm, at the Community of Hope AME Church (3701 Branch Ave, MD).

Calling volunteers!: Help support bus rapid transit in Montgomery County by joining the Coalition for Smarter Growth and Communities for Transit for their Transit Day of Action next Wednesday, September 9. Volunteers are needed at 9 am, midday, or for the after work rush. Fill out this form to sign up or email for more information.
