Concerns over the future of Metro are running high. David Alpert will join two panels on Metro safety, fares, and delays. Also, support DC trees and voice your opinion on expansion to the Metropolitan Branch Trail and changes to I-66.

Future of Metro: Frequent delays, safety concerns, rising prices, on the Metro system all affect Metro’s daily riders. So what does the future of our transit system look like? An expert panel including our own David Alpert will discuss just that, next Monday, March 23, from 10 to 11:30 am at the National Press Club at 529 14th St. NW.

After the jump: Support DC trees, trail expansion, Metro safety, and changes to I-66.

Metro Safety: David will also join an upcoming panel hosted by the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) on Metro safety. Safety is a growing concern on the Metro after several recent incidents. ATU’s public hearing is on Wednesday, March 25, from 6 to 8 pm at 1313 H St NE.

Changes to I-66: Virginia Department of Transportation has big plans for HOT lanes on I-66 outside of the Beltway. Join Coalition for Smarter Growth and its partners to learn about their plans and voice your concerns on Wednesday, March 25, from 7 to 9 pm at the Oakton High School cafeteria at 2900 Sutton Road, Vienna. There will be a panel and extended open forum. RSVP is requested.

Support the trees: Are you a DC tree hugger? Join Casey Trees and special guest Bethany Bezak, Green Infrastructure Manager for DC Water’s Clean Rivers Project, for a Tree Advocates Meeting this Wednesday, March 18, from 6 to 8:30 pm at 3030 12th St NE. RSVP is requested and dinner will be provided.

Trail expansion: Design is underway for a new portion of the Metropolitan Branch Trail north of Brookland. The popular trail already runs from Union Station to Brookland. DDOT and Advisory Neighborhood Commission 4B will present the design and hear feedback at a meeting this Saturday, March 21, from 1 to 4 pm at the 4th District Police Headquarters at 6001 Georgia Avenue NW.
