Alexandria and Prince George’s County want your input on big projects. Plus, learn about the future of the Silver line, and how data is being utilized to make positive changes to neighborhoods.

Street grids and land use: Tonight, speak up for biking and walking infrastructure in the area around Van Dorn Metro at Alexandria’s fifth Eisenhower West small area plan community meeting.

The plan includes Clermont Natural Parks, Cameron Station, and the Van Dorn Metro Station, and is open for public comment. Voice your opinion on changes that will have an impact through 2040 tonight (February 9) from 7 to 8 pm at Beatley Central Library at 5005 Duke Street.

After the jump: Zoning code, Silver Line, global cities, and data-driven change in cities.

Zoning code: Joining recent efforts by DC and Montgomery County, Prince George’s County is the latest jurisdiction to be rewriting its zoning code. If you haven’t yet had a chance to share your thoughts, head to the north county listening session, which has been rescheduled for Tuesday, February 10, from 6 to 8 pm at 6600 Kenilworth Avenue in Riverdale, MD.

Silver Line with ACT: What’s next for the Silver Line, now that Phase I is open? Head over to this month’s Action Committee for Transit meeting with Charles Stark, Executive Director of the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project. The meeting is Tuesday, February 10 starting at 7:30 at the Silver Spring Civic Center, One Veterans Place.

Challenge of global cities: This Thursday at 2pm, London Mayor Boris Johnson and San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer discuss how their cities address the challenge of growing and becoming global cities, hosted by the Brookings Institute.

Data-driven change: Do you believe in the power of data? Join the Urban Institute’s Kathryn Pettit at the American Planning Association to discuss her work with the National Neighborhood Partnership, showing how you can use neighborhood data to improve communities through policy, planning and advocacy. RSVP is requested.
