With the new year and new administrations, a lot will be changing around the region. Discuss how to build support for transit with David Alpert Tuesday, share your ideas for Muriel Bowser’s administration this weekend, and more at upcoming events around the region.

ACT with David Alpert: This month’s meeting of the Action Committee for Transit will feature Greater Greater Washington founder David Alpert, who will talk about how blogs, advocates, businesses, and government officials all have to work together to win support for transit and other projects. The meeting is Tuesday, January 13 starting at 7:30 at the Silver Spring Civic Center, One Veterans Place.

Talk about the transition: A group of DC advocacy organizations has been working to get ideas from residents around the city for Muriel Bowser’s mayoralty. The work will culminate in a town hall meeting on Saturday, January 17. The organizers hope to draw a representative sample of residents from all parts of the District.

Clean up the river for King: Celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by giving back to your community. Join Groundwork Anacostia at Pope Branch Park from 9 am to noon next Monday, January 19 for the 5th annual clean up of the Pope Branch. You can register there beginning at 8:30 am.

Federal transportation policy: Michael Melaniphy, the President and CEO of the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), will discuss the trends, challenges, and opportunities in the coming year of federal transportation policy at a talk on Wednesday, January 21. The event is at APTA’s offices, 1666 K Street NW. A wine a cheese reception starts at 5 pm and the presentation and discussion will go from 5:30 to 6:30 pm.
