Who’s ideological?
WSJ editorialist Dorothy Rabinowitz flipped out over Citibike, saying it “begrimed” New York, bicyclists are “the most important danger,” “the bike lobby is an all-powerful enterprise,” and Mayor Bloomberg is driven by “ideological passions.” … But others are crazy about Citibike in a positive way. The real big danger
An allegedly-drunk driver drove for 5 miles on the W&OD trail between Reston and Vienna. She almost hit many walkers and cyclists, eventually hit a 65-year-old man on a bicycle, then was arrested. (Post)
MoCo wants bike lanes near bikeshare
Montgomery County will devote $250,000 to find places to add bike lanes that go hand in hand with Capital Bikeshare stations that will come online in late summer. (Patch)
Make Maple Ave walkable, bikeable?
A consultant envisions 4-story buildings on Vienna’s main street, Maple Avenue, plus parking garages. Some said the sidewalks are too narrow and were disappointed the consultant has no bike lanes on Maple. (Patch)

Riders want technology
Transit riders nationwide would pay more to be able to use smartphones for ticketing. They also expect transit agencies to communicate more on social media. (Wired)
Taxi tidbits
Taxi fares rose 25¢, but only for cabs taking credit cards. Taxis can also charge per passenger again, but not for luggage. … MyTaxi says proposed regulations will block it from using its own credit card system to let riders pay for fares. (DCist)
Reps want to keep nonstops
100 members of Congress don’t want US Airways and American to give up slots at DCA airport in a merger, because it might mean fewer flights to their smaller cities (including flights many of them use regularly). (Reuters)
