We’ve been doing a lot of talking about what will get more families biking. This week is Global Road Safety Week and it’s time stop talking and get the family on the road. Coincidentally, Bike to School Day is May 8.

So far, 17 DC schools have registered to participate.

If you’re near Capitol Hill, stop by the pit stop at Lincoln Park, where about a dozen schools will meet up and form bike trains to individual schools. Expect a scene complete with DC and federal government glitterati (think transportation and health). Outgoing US Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood will be there, and members from the Presidents’ Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition.

Also, expect a lot of fun. There will be a helmet check station, giveaways, and an international flag scavenger hunt in support of the Long Short Walk later that morning.

The best part? The kids (and parents) get to bike to school together! Don’t you wish it was bike to school day EVERY day?

How will your family participate?
