2010 wish list for transit
Since many transit projects have either broken ground or are in the engineering phase in the region, it is important to create long-term visions that will continue to make Greater Washington Greater. Some projects are new, while others repeat from last year’s list because they were good ideas then and are good ideas now. Build a southern entrance to Columbia… Keep reading…

Leggett’s growth vision is not smart at all
The twin plans of Gaithersburg West and White Flint, both currently under consideration in Montgomery County, provide a rare opportunity to compare elected officials’ responses to Smart Growth infill plans and sprawl development plans. The White Flint plan would convert the mess of strip malls along that segment of Rockville Pike into a real, transit-oriented, walkable neighborhood. Keep reading…

Leggett: “Isolating revenue” via special districts is bad, unless for parking
Psychological research has shown that people’s brains naturally respond to arguments that support our point of view, but reject almost identical arguments if applied to issues where we disagree. That’s why Democrats think Republicans are hypocrites, and Republicans think the same of Democrats. This also applies to policies about prioritizing walkable versus… Keep reading…

For Montgomery’s future, look to Arlington
Montgomery County Councilmember Roger Berliner (D-District 1) has proposed adding an additional Metro station near the existing White Flint station. Mr. Berliner proposed the station to enhance the pedestrian-oriented infrastructure for the upcoming suburban-to-urban retrofits in the new White Flint Sector Plan and to address the expected traffic from BRAC. He noted that… Keep reading…
