How DC Route 295 isolates neighborhoods in Northeast DC from the rest of the city
The Lane Place pedestrian overpass, which was destroyed when a truck driver collided with it last month, is one of a limited number of crossings of DC Route 295 that connect a set of neighborhoods along the Anacostia River in Northeast DC to the rest of the District of Columbia. Last week, WMATA reported that one way to close its budget gap could be to close 20 Metro stations outside of rush hour, including seven that serve DC communities that are east of the Anacostia River. Big parts of the Blue, Orange, and Silver Lines are about to shut down for two weeks
Starting on Saturday and lasting through July 3rd, Metro is fully closing the tracks from the Benning Road and Minnesota Avenue stations to Eastern Market, along with those between Rosslyn and Arlington National Cemetery.
