Shoveling hall of shame: Dick Durbin and NPS
Dick Durbin has joined the ranks of Congressmen who pick on DC for its inability to instantly, magically melt several feet of snow that smashed the all-time record. But Durbin might want to look a little closer to home for the source of some problems. Along Pennsylvania Avenue, for example, the worst job clearing snow came from the National Park Service, part of the federal… Keep reading…

Some days, it’s hard to wonder how the National Park Service justifies having “park” in their name. Rock Creek Park is a large park with many amenities, but a large part of it is just a highway for cars with a narrow trail for everyone else adjacent. The Bike DC ride, a low-stress bicycle ride around DC, asked NPS for permission to use Rock Creek Parkway for two hours… Keep reading…

Why aren’t there buses to the memorials?
There’s no Circulator bus to the FDR Memorial. No bus to Hains Point. No Metrobus to the Jefferson Memorial or Lincoln Memorial, even though a variety of bus lines to Virginia pass right by them; the closest stops are at 14th and Independence or 22nd and Constitution, which aren’t that close. On the Mall itself, east of the Washington Monument, many buses including a DC… Keep reading…
