Restrictive zoning is impeding DC’s goal to build more housing, research shows
Mayor Muriel Bowser kicked off her second term as Washington, D.C.’s mayor last January by setting an ambitious goal for the District: building 36,000 new homes by 2025. Walk through downtown Washington, DC these days, and it looks like we’re in a construction boom. Not exactly. Our new report shows that, over the past 20 years, the region added almost twice as many people as housing units. Pedestrian crash rates are highest in the District’s poorest areas
Last week, Mayor Muriel Bowser proposed a reset of her Vision Zero campaign, acknowledging the unpleasant fact that fatalities have risen over the past several years.
